3/8: Visicaro Wins State Title To Cap Historic Weekend for Long Branch
On a day that saw Long Branch officially named the #1 team in New Jersey, Junior Nick Visicaro became the first Long Branch wrestler to win a State Championship since Sam Cole in 1986 and the Green Wave tied a Shore Conference record with six state placers in a single season.
Wrestling as the top seed in the bottom bracket of his weight class, Visicaro reeled off five straight wins, with the final three coming by one point each, on his way to the 160-pound State Championship.
Five other LB wrestlers earned medals over the weekend giving the Wave six in all that tied a Shore Conference record for a single season set by Ocean Township in 2007.

2/28: Akel Stuns Seidenberg, Robertson Pins Wilton, To Win Region Titles
Omar Akel knocked off Raritan's Dan Seidenberg, 3-2, in the 3rd overtime and Jon Robertson needed just 2:49 to defeat Jackson's Tyler Wilton as they became Long Branch's first Region champions since the 2002 season. With their wins, they clinch 1st round byes at the opening round of the NJSIAA State Championships in Atlantic City next Friday night.
Joining Akel and Robertson on Boardwalk Hall will be senior Ameer Washington, and juniors Billy George, Scott Festejo, and Nick Visicaro who all placed 2nd at the Region.

Matt Eggie and Andrew Cornell were both victorious in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament on Tuesday night. Both move on to Friday night's quarterfinal round along with Long Branch's nine District champs.

2/21: Long Branch Crowns 9 Champs, Wins 1st Team Title Since 1985
The Long Branch Green Wave made yet another strong claim towards the #1 overall ranking in the state on Saturday as they had nine individual champions and eleven wrestlers overall earn medals at the 2009 District 23 Tournament. The strong performance by the LB wrestlers enabled them to cruise to their first District team title in 24 years as they outpointed runner-up Brick Memorial 313.5 to 191.5.
Scott Festejo (125), Jon Robertson (145), Billy George (189), and Ameer Washington (Hwt) all picked up their 2nd District titles, while Justin Clarke (135), Doug Cornell (140), Nick Visicaro (160), Omar Akel (171), and Randy Rodriguez (215) all won their first titles.
Long Branch's nine champions will all receive byes into the Region 6 quarterfinals to be held at the Ritacco Center on Friday night.
Matt Eggie (2nd at 103) and Andrew Cornell (3rd at 130) also advanced to Regions and will be in action on Tuesday night in the opening round. Eggie will face Freehold Boro's Tom Nulty, while Cornell takes on Jed Brown of Southern.
In addition to the wrestlers achievements on Saturday, head coach Danny George was voted by his fellow coaches as the District 23 Coach of the Year.
