3/9: Green Wave Wrestlers' Run Ends In Atlantic City

Long Branch had four medal hopefuls in this year's NJSIAA Tournament, but came up short in their bids to earn the first State Tournament medals for Long Branch since 2002.

Sophomore Billy George cam closest for the Wave, dropping a 3-1 overtime decision to eventual 4th-place finisher George Saliba of Hopewell Valley.

Amir Washington won his preliminnary match, but then dropped two consecutive decisions in the wrestleback rounds.  Justin Clarke and Jon Robertson were both eliminated in their preiminary openers.

All four wrestlers return for Long Branch in 2009

3/1: Long Branch Advances Four to Atlantic City

Jon Robertson and Ameer Washington took 2nd, and Justin Clarke and Billy George wrestled back for 3rd place as Long Branch sent four wrestlers through to the NJSIAA Tournament in Atlantic City.

Sophomores Scott Festejo and Nick Visicaro came up just short in their bids for AC.  Both with both wrestlers finishing in 4th place.

2/26: Long Branch Advances Five Through Preliminaries

Scott Festejo, Ray Stahum, Justin Clarke, Doug Cornell, and Nick Visicaro wrestled their way into the quartefinal round of the Region 6 Tournament by picking up wins in Tuesday's preliminaries.  They join teammates Jon Robertson, Billy George, and Ameer Washington, who had 1st Round byes, to give Long Branch a total of eight wrestlers in action at the Ritacco Center on Friday night.

Scott Festejo (119), Jon Robertson (145), and Billy George (189) won championships, and Doug Cornell (1140) and Ameer Washington (Hwt) were runner-ups as the Green Wave finished in 2nd Place behind Collingswood at the Neptune Classic.  The Wave's 2nd Place finish stands out as impressive as the team was missing several starters from their lineup.

The Green Wave hope to have their lineup intact as they head to Wall on Thursday night for a huge B-North match with the Knights.
